Linus has released the 5.0 kernel. “But I’d like to point out (yet again) that we don’t do feature-based releases, and that “5.0” doesn’t mean anything more than that the 4.x numbers started getting big enough that I ran out of fingers and toes.” Headline features from this release include the energy-aware scheduling patch set, a bunch of year-2038 work that comes close to completing the core-kernel transition, zero-copy networking for UDP traffic, the Adiantum encryption algorithm, the seccomp trap to user space mechanism, and, of course, lots of new drivers and fixes.
