They cover a wide range of domains such as education, multimedia, gaming, research, and commerce.

Oh gosh this takes me back! I worked on an Internet MP3 jukebox in Squeak as an undergrad class project in like 2001. In retrospect they had a lot right about the sandbox and virtual machine model, and amazing debugging tools.
