Codecademy, in collaboration with Adafruit Industries, launches new course: “Learn Hardware Programming with CircuitPython”
We have a proper press release too 🙂
Codecademy, an online interactive learning platform used by more than 45 million people, has teamed up with the leading manufacturer in STEAM electronics, Adafruit Industries, to create a coding course, “Learn Hardware Programming with CircuitPython”. Starting today, the course is available in the Codecademy catalog.
NEW YORK, NY – April 15, 2019 – Python is a highly versatile, easy to learn programming language that a wide range of people, from visual effects artists in Hollywood to mission control at NASA, use to quickly solve problems. But you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to accomplish amazing things with it. This new course introduces programmers to Python by way of a microcontroller – CircuitPython – which is a Python-based programming language optimized for use on hardware.
CircuitPython’s hardware-ready design makes it easier than ever to program a variety of single-board computers, and this course gets you from no experience to working prototype faster than ever before. Codecademy’s interactive learning environment, combined with Adafruit’s highly rated Circuit Playground Express, present aspiring hardware hackers with a never-before-seen opportunity to learn hardware programming seamlessly online.
Whether for those who are new to programming, or for those who want to expand their skill set to include physical computing, this course will have students getting familiar with Python and creating incredible projects along the way. By the end, students will have built their own bike lights, drum machine, and even a moisture detector that can tell when it’s time to water a plant.
Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT hacker & engineer, Limor “Ladyada” Fried. Her goal was to create the best place online for learning electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels. Adafruit has grown to over 100+ employees in the heart of NYC with a 50,000+ sq ft. factory. Adafruit has expanded offerings to include tools, equipment, and electronics that Limor personally selects, tests, and approves before going in to the Adafruit store. Adafruit is a 100% woman owned company – https://www.adafruit.com
Codecademy has helped more than 45 million people around the world upgrade their careers with technology skills. The company’s online interactive learning platform is widely recognized for providing an accessible, flexible, and engaging experience for beginners and experienced programmers alike. Codecademy has raised a total of $43 million from investors including Union Square Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Index Ventures, Thrive Capital, Naspers, Yuri Milner and Richard Branson, most recently raising its $30 million Series C in July 2016 – https://www.codecademy.com/
Why Learn CircuitPython?
CircuitPython is a programming language designed to simplify experimenting and learning to program on hardware devices. It makes getting started with low-cost microcontroller boards easier than ever before.
It adds hardware support for Python, so if you already have Python knowledge, you can easily apply that to using CircuitPython. If you have no previous experience, it’s really simple to get started!
This course will start with learning how to light up the colors on the Circuit Playground Express using its buttons and NeoPixel LEDs before digging deeper into the more advanced features such as audio output and touchpads.
You will use the Circuit Playground Express to build projects such as:
- Bike Light
- Plant Buddy
- 808 Drum Machine
- Adafruit: Limor Fried
- Adafruit: Phillip Torrone
- Codecademy: Sonny Li
- 45,000,000+ Codecademy learners
- Time to Complete: 5 Hours
- Prerequisites: None
Get started today! Special thanks to the entire team at Codecademy, and team Adafruit that assisted: Brian, Nikki, Stella, Teddy and more!
