Python is eating the world – how it became the hottest language #Python @ZDnet

Guido van Rossum created Python out of frustration with other computer languages. Nick Heath on ZDnet discusses Python’s past and explores what’s next.

Today enthusiasm for Python has spread far beyond that initial circle of developers, and some are predicting it will soon become the most popular programming language in the world, as it continues to add new users faster than any other languageMillions of people use Python each day, with the exponential growth in users showing little sign of tailing off.

Python is used for tasks big and small by professional and amateur developers and is particularly popular among web devs, data scientists, and system administrators.

Python plays a pivotal role in some of the world’s best-known organizations, helping Netflix stream videos to more than 100 million homes worldwide, powering the photo-sharing phenomenon Instagram, and aiding NASA in space exploration.

See the article here for more including a video of the discussion.

And to see those smaller, microcontroller-sized use cases (which actually is a huge, growing field) see CircuitPython.org and the Awesome CircuitPython List.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
