Python Preview extension for Visual Studio Code adds debugging #Python #VSCode
GitHub user Dong Li debuts Python Preview – a VS Code editor extension which adds debugging to Python.
The combination is pretty slick. I copied my last CircuitPython code in from the NeoTrellis Soundboard project and told VSC it was Python. The program then prompted me to select one of the three versions of Python on my Windows machine.
Debugging for CircuitPython will require more configuration. I probably need to dig further for CircuitPython compatibility – the programs need to have access to all the CircuitPython libraries
Requirements
Install a version of Python 3.6 or Python 2.7. make sure the location of your Python interpreter is included in your PATH environment variable.
It’s better to install Python Extension for Python Intellisense.
For Python programmers on Windows, definitely check this out. For CircuitPython, best to start with Mu unless you’re a seasoned VS Code programmer.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
