Charlotte E. Ray – African American History Month 2020 #BlackHistoryMonth
Charlotte E. Ray was a suffragist and a NACW member. Ray was the first woman admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and the first woman to practice before the Supreme Court of D.C. Charlotte E. Ray’s achievements set precendent for women across the country
Ray applied to Howard University’s Law School, under the name “C.E. Ray” to disguise her gender. University officials reluctantly accepted her application and she excelled at her legal studies, specifically corporate law.
