To “reboot the American dream,” we need to “demand more of our political leaders, of our CEOs, our entrepreneurs, our investors. We need to demand more of our culture, of our society. And we need to demand more from one another. We’re all necessary, and we can all contribute, to building.”
I only met Mark once awhile ago when I was MAKE Magazine, I’m sure he does not remember me, this was 10 years ago and I was talking about needing to make things in the USA and the people (makers) that can build, I am hoping he reads this as he can help deploy a lot of capital to build.
Marc, Adafruit is a manufacturer in NYC, making IoT devices, to small microcontrollers, to sensors inside just about everything possible, a lot are using in all the startups you fund. We were deemed an essential business to help fight COVID-19 in NYC and manufacture face shields, components for medical devices and more.
If you know any bank or VC that will invest, support, or help building in the USA, or a woman-owned manufacturing company let us know [email protected].
We are trying to purchase a mask machine so we can supply all New Yorkers with masks, we’ve applied for a grant, we’ll shop around for a loan, we will not touch the payroll funds for the 130+ people we have and will continue to pay. What else? IoT / ML fever scanners, LoRA pulse oximeters, bluetooth contact tracing, UV-C sanitizers, let’s get on this.
Many of us build, and will build. We are building, even now, every day in the epicenter.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
Have an amazing project to share? The Electronics Show and Tell is every Wednesday at 7pm ET! To join, head over to YouTube and check out the show’s live chat – we’ll post the link there.
