“Best of Adafruit” Photo & Video Series Day 51 #photography #art #design #wfh #bestofadafruit

Throughout this week, the Adafruit photo team will be posting a “Best of Adafruit” photo each day!

Check in as we take you back to all of our favorite photos and videos.

For our day 51 post, here’s a throwback to the spiritual successor to The Mini Strandbeest, this kit uses physicist/artist Theo Jansen’s technique to create an elegant walking robot!

This bipedal robot is propelled in the same way as The Strandbeest – without electricity or batteries and only by the power of the wind. Simply put together the kit, place the robot on a flat surface, add a fan or some blowing air, and watch as it walks gracefully and fluidly forward. It’s a fun, easy, and unique kit for both kids and adults and looks great while in motion or resting on a mantelpiece. It truly is a work of physics and a work of art!

Gakken is a Japanese publishing company founded in 1946.  In the 1970s, they began selling educational toys, books, magazines, and electronic kits.  Their kits are known for their smart design and relative ease of use and have a large cult following both in Japan and the United States.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
