Gamekid, a Game Boy emulator for the Playdate @dmierau
Gamekid is a Game Boy emulator Dustin Mierau has built for the Playdate.
A hobby project to learn about the handheld console of my childhood. Some rough edges. Planning to open source once the Playdate ships.
It’s been built this from scratch in C as most emulators optimize for accuracy vs performance. The Playdate’s display is high density black and white. The Game Boy’s however is 4 shades of (greenish) grey so Dustin emulates it using pattern fills. The display is high enough density that the patterns look grey.
