ADAFRUIT WEEKLY EDITORIAL ROUND-UP
We’ve got so much happening here at Adafruit that it’s not always easy to keep up! Don’t fret, we’ve got you covered. Each week we’ll be posting a handy round-up of what we’ve been up to, ranging from learn guides to blog articles, videos, and more.
We’re excited to announce we’re working with Hack Club and GitHub on the Summer of Making! Read the message from Sam at Hack Club below:
Hey! This a letter to all my fellow teenagers. I’ve got a challenge for you this summer: make something awesome. It can be anything — just make it.
We’ve all been stuck at home struggling through the weird world of home based learning, we haven’t been able to see our friends, and we have missed out on things we’d been excited for. Instead of dwelling the sadness of lockdown, let’s go out of our comfort zone and try something new.
This summer at Hack Club we’re having a Summer of Making. It’s not a program but simply a theme and challenge for the summer. Over a thousand teenagers have already taken the challenge, so how about you?
Keeping with tradition, we covered quite a bit this past week. Here’s a kinda short nearing medium length list of highlights:
- This week in #VintageComputing
- To make it through a tough business cycle, layoffs should be a last resort
- An email to the team on a recent Supreme Court ruling
- Adafruit IO UPDATE
- DigitalFruit of the week
- Birmingham Virtual Street Art Walk
- Black Bandcamp
- Sun Ra and the Outer Space Visual Communicator
Have fun with your face mask — add a light-up “mouth!”
Most of the time, we wear masks to help us stay safe. But sometimes, it’s fun to add a little life to your facewear. This mask uses an Adafruit Circuit Playground Express board to flash a shiny smile whenever you talk, using its built-in sound sensor and easy-to-learn Microsoft MakeCode programming!
This mask itself is simple to sew by hand or on a machine and comfortable to wear. It’s got two layers of fabric with a pouch that can hold a filter — or your CPX.
It’s a great project for kids (or anyone) who are just learning to sew and learning to code!
