The ever-curious Uri Tuckman wanted to know if there were any advantages to making your own paint brushes. So, he bought some hair extensions and tried his hand at some creating paint brushes and two Urushi lacquer brushes.
The results sure look lovely (he hand-carved the handles) but the bottom line is that good brushes might take more than just crimping some hair onto a handle. I wonder if synthetic(?) human hair isn’t too soft and if a stiffer hair might work better.
I do love the idea of being able to make your own custom brushes. I’d love to paint with brushes I’d made.
