Building the Razor Crest Model for The Mandalorian
In this wonderful 17-minute doc, the model and f/x teams at ILM talk about the development of the Razor Crest spaceship for The MandalorianStar Wars series.
There is a lot of cool stuff in here, like details about the original design of the ship (inspired by the A10 Warthog, WWII aluminum aircraft, and a pre-X-Wing design) and how they went about creating a practical effects model and the camera rigs to shoot it.
It’s fun to see the excitement on the faces of all of the digital effects artists at the idea of going back to Star Wars/ILM’s roots and building and shooting miniatures.
