Hard disk hacking – hooking up JTAG #ReverseEngineering @SpritesMods
Sprite_tm looks into the hackability of hard drives by connecting to the JTAG debug header on the circuit board.
The Western Digital controllers seem to have an ARM-core that’s accessible over the JTAG-port. (Also) these hard disks usually have a serial port, which is usually unused but could be useful for debugging my hack.
See the detective methodology used to get information from the interface and more in the multipart series here.
