How Synths Were Advertised in the 80s #MusicMonday
Daft Punk is no more. The dream is all gone. Around the world, is dancing or feeling alright. We’re gonna celebrate zero more times. But sooner or later we’ll get lucky, and even though it’s hard, we’ll get better fast. It all just makes us stronger. As we wipe our tears, we can reflect on Daft Punk’s electro-funk tunes, Michel Gondry’s iconic videos, and the boys’ unique look, which may have been inspired by this classic 80’s synthesizer commercial. Selling synths in the modern era is generally a very sleek and subtle affair, with manufacturers offering smooth dolly shots, close up adjustments and slow motion movements. It was a different story in the late 1980s as this advert for the Yamaha DX100 shows.
It’s tagline of ‘Anything’s Possible’ may be slightly over zealous but if you can bare the VHS hiss (or Storm Wind as its known) you’re treated to a factual overview under the guise of the unveiling of a more sizable Yamaha machine.
