Be Seen: Trans Day of Visibility at the Peabody Institute Library #TransDayofVisibility
According to research done The Williams Institute at UCLA, transgender people report discriminatory experiences in employment, the workplace, and school including physical and verbal harassment and assault at extremely high rates. If these are the rates that are reported, imagine how many go unreported.
On this Trans Day of Visibility, we need you to understand that trans people exist, have a right to exist, and should not have to beg for their humanity.
The event will be emceed by Librarian Gabi Toth, and features our own Gabe Jayroe to lead us off with a presentation on why Trans Visibility matters. Then, transgender and non-binary community members and their allies will share stories, poems, and prose to make their voices heard. We’ll also leave time at the end for community discussion and Q&A.
