How to Get Over the Inevitable “Ugly Phase” of a Project
On this Maker Monster video, the monster discusses what he calls the “ugly phase,” the inevitable slump in a project where you are a risk of giving up. He offers a number of tips of how to overcome such creative slumps.
My favorite tip is: Forget the noun, do the verb. In other words, don’t get so hung up on what you think you are (a maker, an artist, a creative) that you become stuck in this self-identification. Just do the work. Forget about the outcome, sharing it on YT and social media, get back in touch with why decided to start making in the first place.
