I’ve written in my weekly tips newsletter about the wonders of heat-set threaded inserts for 3D printing.
Basically, instead of tapping the plastic of your print to accept hardware, you heat up a threaded brass insert and sink it into your part.
In this Clough42 video, James shows how these inserts have impacted his projects, namely a Centroid Acorn CNC controller and Ether1616 Expansion board that he’s been working on.
You can get iron tips that work with the threaded inserts. Many insert kits even come with such a tool, but James decided to turn his own on the lathe in brass.
