This video, over 30 minutes long, does a deep dive into the design, history, and import of the Wehrmacht Kanister, aka the Jerry can. Even a WWII historian comments on the video that he didn’t know all of the details of this ubiquitous fuel and water canister.
The Jerry can proved to be instrumental to the German Blitzkrieg at the beginning of the war and then (after the cans were captured by the Allies and manufactured in Britain), the Battle of Normandy and the race to take Berlin. Many believe none of this would have been as successful without this ingenious can design.
