The Clean Air Necklace – fashion and function #ESP32 #Environment @GeekyFayeArt
The Clean Air Necklace is a a brilliant blend of modular design, 3D printing, electronics and live data visualization. It also looks *incredibly cool*!
The build uses an Unexpected Maker TinyPICO V2 ESP32 board and a Design Spark Environmental Sensor, with air quality indication using 144 pixels per meter NeoPixel LEDs.
It is also entirely open source, with the 3D files and code available on GitHub.
The code provided will enable connection to WiFi, an MQTT broker hosted locally, and provide animations corresponding to PM 2.5 readings from a sensor. This is set up to work with the DesignSpark ESDK but the code can be changed to use the animation with another sensor. The code requires the FastLED library to function, which can be found here. It is currently set up with two patterns; a base pattern when the PM levels are below a threshold, and an overlay for when PM levels exceed threshold. Additional patterns can be added to cycle through the base pattern easily within the code.
Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
