Rather than a battery, the LED is powered through an inductive coil and the finger is placed in a changing magnetic field like an RDID reader or inductive charger. Premade stickers, such as Adafruit’s RFID/NFC Nail Stickers – 5 Pack with White LEDs make projects like these easier.
