They’re both helices, but the primary difference is structural. The slinky of squares is much smaller, and fairly fragile–and adding layers to that build didn’t particularly help. This build is very solid, and if I were to make the helix with five or six layer coils it would be even sturdier. It’s also structurally dynamic. The final helix has a 23 pointed star in each coil, but there’s no reason why I couldn’t make those coils 22 points, or 8, or anything in between. And the way that energy moves through the build is just crazy–it looks almost alive. My daughter found it quite disgusting, and I can’t say that I blame her. There’s a reason I’ve been calling this the sunflower worm. 😂 And I already know how I want to scale this monstrosity up! Future video.
