Coding Minecraft:EducationEdition with MakeCode just got some upgrades! Here are some highlights:
New mobs, items and blocks
Always the number one request we get from students: “More mobs! More mobs!” So in this update we’ve added:
7 new mobs including Axolotls, Goats and Piglins
52 new blocks including Copper, Chain and Blackstone
31 new items including Shield, Dyes and Netherite tools/armor
New Position Blocks
The 3-dimensional coordinate system in Minecraft is one of the more challenging aspects of coding in the game. We’ve provided two new position blocks that will hopefully make it easier to code exactly what you want, where you want it.
Block detection
For those of you who love the mining in Minecraft, you’ll appreciate these new block detection blocks which allow you to detect different types of blocks.
Arrays as parameters in Functions
And lastly we’ve added Arrays as a parameter data type for Functions, so now you can create your own random spawn block or do bubble sorts on mobs!

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
Have an amazing project to share? The Electronics Show and Tell is every Wednesday at 7:30pm ET! To join, head over to YouTube and check out the show’s live chat and our Discord!
