I was pleased to see so many of my recent favorites included (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Her, Inception, to name a few). I particularly enjoyed seeing Moon on the list — I remember seeing it in theaters at the Sunshine Cinema in the Lower East Side, which was demolished back in 2019 (more from curbed). Sam Rockwell’s performance is, as noted by Den of Geek, totally arresting – this scene in particular truly guts me every time. It made such an impression on me that in the years to come, I did my best to follow his career. I was lucky enough to score tickets to see him in Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love back in 2015, where he predictably blew me away.
What’s your favorite film listed here? What do you feel is missing?
If you told a room full of geeks in early 2007 that 2022 would be a world filled with smartphones and tablets, social media-shaped democracies, and something called “TikTok,” they might think you’d written a sci-fi movie. Still in that upheaval, we saw some pretty good science fiction stories come out in their own time, both Hollywood blockbuster big and intimately indie; iconic and underappreciated.
