Adam Savage on How to Restore Yellowing Plastic

In this quick Tested video, Adam sets out to restore the lid on a gorgeous vintage Nagra IV-S audio recorder he recently acquired. The machine is in surprisingly good condition, but the clear plastic cover was badly yellowed.

Doing research on the internet, he found many recommendations for using 12% hydrogen peroxide. He tries it with only partial success. He discovers that finishing it up with plastic polishing compound returned it to something close it is original glory.

  1. The Nagra IV-s….

On Mayday: Air Disaster, Season 4, Episode 7, at 38:50, a working model of the Nagra IV-s is used in the filming of that scene. No cover though, yellowing, or otherwise.
