BzzBzzzz… It’s Adafruit IO texting you! We’ve deployed an update to Adafruit IO‘s Actions which allows Adafruit IO to send feed values to you via SMS! This update works with all three types of Adafruit IO Actions: Reactive Actions, Scheduled Actions, and Timer Actions (new!). Actions work with Adafruit IO WipperSnapper so you can create an IoT project which sends SMS messages without programming!
Using Reactive Actions, you can now receive a text message if a feed receives a certain value. The body of the text message can also be templated out to include the feed’s name, value, timestamp, latitude, longitude, and elevation:
You can also create a Scheduled Action to send an SMS with the current value of a feed at a scheduled, recurring, time:
SMS Action triggers are only available for users with an active Adafruit IO Plus account. Each Adafruit IO Plus account is allocated 25 SMS messages per day (UTC) to use across all their actions.
What is Adafruit IO Plus? Adafruit IO Plus is the upgraded, all-systems-go version of the Adafruit IO service. We don’t have investors and we’re not going to sell your data. When you sign up for Adafruit IO+ you’re supporting the same Adafruit Industries whose hardware and software you already know and love. You help make sure we’re not going anywhere by letting us know we’re on the right track.
If you are experiencing issues with this new feature, please post up in the Adafruit IO Forums.

Stop breadboarding and soldering – start making immediately! Adafruit’s Circuit Playground is jam-packed with LEDs, sensors, buttons, alligator clip pads and more. Build projects with Circuit Playground in a few minutes with the drag-and-drop MakeCode programming site, learn computer science using the CS Discoveries class on code.org, jump into CircuitPython to learn Python and hardware together, TinyGO, or even use the Arduino IDE. Circuit Playground Express is the newest and best Circuit Playground board, with support for CircuitPython, MakeCode, and Arduino. It has a powerful processor, 10 NeoPixels, mini speaker, InfraRed receive and transmit, two buttons, a switch, 14 alligator clip pads, and lots of sensors: capacitive touch, IR proximity, temperature, light, motion and sound. A whole wide world of electronics and coding is waiting for you, and it fits in the palm of your hand.
