Stroll Beneath A Canopy Of Colorful Lanterns At This Free Holiday Art Installation
Brookfield Place celebrates the start of the holiday season with an incredible light installation. “Light up Luminaries“, a canopy of twinkling lanterns opens for the season Friday November 25. Via SecretNYC
The suspended canopy made up of 640 twinkling glowing lanterns change in color and intensity, and there’s an interactive component where visitors can make a “wish” on different “wishing stations” that travel up to the lanterns and activate a magical light show. For every wish made, Brookfield Place will donate $1 (up to $25,000) to Outreach, which offers high quality, evidence-based behavioral health services for youth and adults in NYC and on Long Island struggling with substance and alcohol abuse.
They also have light shows every hour from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. set to popular holiday songs like “Winter Wonderland” by Michael Bublé, “Silver Bells” by Tony Bennett, “Carol of the Bells” by The Bird and The Bee, and “Let it Snow” by Pentatonix.
Also returning again is an interactive element called “Maestro,” which lets guests conduct their own symphony! Using “skeletal tracking technology,” you can design your own light show that is played in time with holiday music.
This full schedule is as follows:
November 25 – December 1: Wishing, Maestro and Light Shows
December 2 – 4: No wishing, Maestro, or light shows due to The Nutcracker performances
December 5 – January 1: Wishing, Maestro, and Light Shows
January 2 – 6: Luminaries canopy is in ambient mode. No wishing, Maestro, or light shows
