Making a Robotic Trashcan That Comes When You Call It
Robotics doyen James Bruton decided to see if he could make a robot trashcan.. er… bin… that reliably comes when you call it.
Calling out commands to the Binbot 9000, as it slowly motors its way a few feet from the kitchen to the dining room, may seem like the height of laziness, but you can imagine further developments of this tech being applied to help the physically challenged, elderly, or other applications at very low cost.
As James says, this was basically an experiment in relatively simple robot navigation with wheel encoders and vision recognition.
