Once upon a time, science fiction was so new to the American public, that they weren’t quite sure what it was. Science fiction was so popular, and so out of the blue, that a 1951 Time Magazine article attempted to explain this strange genre to a confused America. Here’s more from Classics of Science Fiction:
Life Magazine was telling the mundane world about the strange world of science fiction and its fans. The reporter Winthrop Sargeant did an excellent job, covering the genre’s history, the magazines, the movies, even going into the feuds and our embarrassing spinoffs like the Shaver Mystery and Dianetics.
