I remixed Waggster’s excellent BB-9 Google Home Costume for an Amazon Echo Dot. Specifically, I modified the round body panels to fit the shape of the Echo Dot. The head is unchanged, print the original design at 75% size. For the eye I cut a tiny piece of transparent red PLA filament because it’s too small to print.
The side panels have already been resized to 75% already so print them normally. Important: supports are needed only for the grill panel. Be aware that the supports are tricky to remove because the grills are rather thin. I used a parallel line pattern for the supports which seemed to make them slightly easier to remove. Use double-sided sticky tape to tape the panels to the Dot. Only 3 or 4 side panels are needed.
There’s also no need to print BB-9’s main body because the Dot is already shaped like a ball.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!
Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
