Quick – how many NYC bridges can you name? Chances are you could easily name…let’s say 1. Hey, if you asked me to name a bridge in Portland, OR I wouldn’t be able to name a single bridge and according to the Official Guide to Portland there are 12. Anyway, would you be shocked to learn there are 789 bridges operated by NYC DOT? I’m still not over it 😉 While we’re counting we can’t help give a shoutout to the 4 tunnels and 24 movable bridges.
A couple weeks ago I came across this reel about the Broadway Bridge (and also kinda the University Heights Bridge) from norbertobriceno on Instagram which of course opened a Wikipedia tab and delightfully ended with this piece from Open Culture that includes Michael Wyetzner‘s NYC Bridges for Architectural Digest linked at the top.
