Epson HX-20: a spring clean and battery replacement
Dan got a vintage Epson HX-20 from their father in law, having no idea what an iconic piece of hardware this was (“first ‘true’ laptop” they say…). There was no charger and it was obvious that the rechargeable batteries inside would be well and truly past any usable life span.
I set up to completely dismantle it, to understand what makes it tick and to give it a good clean (I even considered “RetroBrite”-ing it using hydrogen peroxide, but opted against it when I saw the amount of work involved).
