In honor of Ada Lovelace day, today we are celebrating the inspiring life and career or Dr. Ayanna Howard.
From earning her Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the age of 27, to working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, to being named an IEEE fellow in 2021, Howard’s career achievements are robust and impressive. She currently serves as the dean of The Ohio State University College of Engineering.
Back in 2018, Dr. Howard spoke to NPR about how her passion for building robots began as a child and how finding comfort in courage has helped her succeed in a field where she’s often seen as an outsider.
Growing up, Howard was obsessed with creating robots. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and by the time she was 27 she landed her dream job at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Howard leads a small team of engineers and scientists tasked with advancing the intelligence of robots for future Mars missions.
