Implementing live video streaming in software

Regarding live video streaming, I found … that the information is possibly even more difficult to find, and building an application that actually streams video to an online platform directly seems to be a rather obscure undertaking. So I have decided to once again write about the required background information and give some pointers to useful libraries and resources to build your own software.
