I ran out of solder wire recently, and feeling
nostalgic, I looked to see when I last ordered it from Adafruit. I
discovered it had been three years this month, and along with a soldering
iron and other items, it was my very first purchase from Adafruit. I had
been a programmer for years, but this was the first time I delved into the
electronics side of things. I remember a saying years ago, “Beware of
programmers carrying screwdrivers”. I thought it was funny at the time but
in a way it describes a separation between software and hardware developers.
With the help of Adafruit and their learning guides, and Adafruit products
like the Feathers and NeoPixels, I have jumped into the hardware side these
past three years. Recently, I have created several custom Featherwing PCBs
and I am ready to release a NeoPixel based product for resale. I attribute
this all to Adafruit and that first spool of solder wire three years ago.
From this screwdriver (and soldering iron) carrying programmer, thank you,
Adafruit, for doing what you are doing, and hope to be ordering many more
spools of solder and other items from Adafruit in the years to come.
