Reverse engineering a scoreboard display #ReverseEngineering #ESP32
Evan Grove has designed an IoT enabled LED seven segment display by reverse engineering a unit used for an old scoreboard.
Coming in at 11 inches tall and 6 inches wide, this gigantic seven-segment display seems like a great toy starting point for my high-octane IoT project. By poking the board with a 12V supply, I was able to figure out two things. Most importantly, the display is wired as common-anode. Ta-daa! Here’s our completed schematic for one segment of the display:
To control the segments, Evan made a circuit which used a flop flop to switch segments via a transistor.
Controlling things remotely, the control circuit was connected to an ESP32 microcontroller running the Zephyr RTOS.
