Investigating Augmented Reality glasses USB protocols #ReverseEngineering
Alex Badics of Void Computing has been reverse engineering the USB protocols used by augmented reality (AR) glasses. While some of the glasses on the market implement protocols wisely, some have made questionable, even poor choices.
They, as a group, use USB-C for communication but that doesn’t mean they follow specifications. And documentation for their application programming interfaces (APIs) can either be rather easy or a nightmare of scanty docs and brute force reverse engineering.
Check out the two articles (here and here) that discuss dissecting six AR glasses and the results.
