SD card to parallel port adapters and MS-DOS driver for old PCs #VintageComputing
Marton Juhasz on GitHub documents a fabulous project providing SD card emulation of a hard disk for vintage MS-DOS computers using the parallel (printer) port.
“A long forgotten solution that gets updated every decade or so. [ 1994 – 2014 – 2024 ]” It’s either the update rate is doubling – and the next update will come in 2029 – or it is coming in every year that ends with a four… Anyway, I wanted to have a single repository to contain all information to keep this neat solution afloat.
Current version of the MS-DOS driver supports powering the SD card via the parallel port.
There is a CONFIG.SYS device driver for accessing the card and emulating one or more partitions as hard drives.
Two PCBs are presented, one for a prefab SD card adapter and an all-in-one solution.
This appears to be a much easier method for adding software than using a XTIDE add-in card and an IDE to CF or SD card converter.
