Marker balls on a wire

Last week’s Scope of Work newsletter featured a bunch of cool information on power line marker balls. Marker balls are the exact type of object that you always notice but rarely take the time to consider. Turns out, if you do, they are surprisingly fascinating! The Scope of Work newsletter linked to a blog post by bookofjoe (self-proclaimed ‘World’s most popular blogging anesthesiologist’) that provides some of then basics on how and why we make these marker balls, and why they are designed to be specific colors.

According to Tana, a marker ball manufacturer, “Our standard color is International Danger Orange, however, Yellow and White are available as an option. In some cases, these colors prove to be more visible, depending on the surrounding terrain. In some circumstances, such as river and canyon crossings, the FAA recommends an alternating pattern of Orange, Yellow, and White.”
