On display at the University of Oxford in England, The Oxford Electric Bell has been continuously chiming for almost two centuries. Earning a Guinness World Record as having the most durable battery in the world, it is estimated to have rung 10 billion times or more. Interesting Engineering shares the story of the bell shrouded in mystery.
The composition of the batteries is also a factor that may contribute to the bell’s enduring ring. However, this aspect adds to the mystery surrounding the Oxford Electric Bell. While scientists have formulated some plausible theories, the precise makeup of the batteries remains unknown.
