Was doing research for one type of outside robot and ended up looking a bunch more, here are some of my notes in a blog post format that might be helpful or interesting to someone.
For residential lawn mower robots, I checked out Bob Wila’s website which I had not visited before but I think I will more often and there is an RSS feed. The 6 Best Robot Lawn Mowers for Automated Maintenance in 2024, Tested.
Their pick was the WORX Landroid Robotic Lawn Mower (Up To 1/4 Acre).
The Yarbo does lawn, BUT it also has modular attachments for snow blowing, leaf blowing, and lawn mowing.
There are a bunch of Husqvarna Automowers with what appear to be REALLY advanced features on the high end model(s) : Electric height adjustment – Smart Connections with IFTTT, control via app, Pattern Mowing, GPS theft protection, FOTA – Firmware-Over-The-Air, EPOS guidance, appDrive – driving by remote, “EPOS guidance”, Remote object detection.
Ambrogio -another robotic lawnmower, gotta say these look really cool and futuristic.
Tertill – The Robot That Weeds Your Vegetable Garden. I have one of these! Will post some vids/pics soon.
In development? a leaf-picking up robot?
Other robots I was interested in for doing what would be consider house work in some way…
HOBOT-S6 Pro – Window Cleaning Robot “HOBOT-S6 Pro redefines window cleaning with its revolutionary dual mop-polish function, rapidly reciprocating at 600 times per minute. It is the first window cleaning robot in the market that cleans with two reciprocating cleaning cloths, this unique function not only cleans the window more efficiently but also neutralizes static electricity, ensuring your windows stay clear and bright for a longer period of time.” – video.
And there is a “WINBOT W1 PRO Window Cleaning Robot” – video.
Went down a bit of a rabbit hole as they say and ended up look at the Gladwell Gecko Robot Window Cleaner, Tosima W2 Window Cleaner Robot, and the CHOVERY CL-2 3000Pa Window Cleaning Robot, it’s hard to tell if these really work.
There are of course robot vacuums including the iRobot lined up and all the iRobot-like ones that are out now, I left those out of this round up because there are just too many – HOWEVER, I do recall the iRobot Looj 330 Gutter Cleaning Robot, but they do not make them any longer.
The Looj was discontinued in 2017, and the Mirra which was a pool cleaning robot from iRobot was discontinued in 2013.
There are many other pool robots now. I ended up on the PoolGuy podcast, and Aquabot which was the more popular pool robot was split into Aqua Products and Aquatron. It’s absolutely amazing that there is a PoolGuy Podcast that has everything about robotic pool cleaners.
I stopped when I got to this automatic green bell pepper harvesting robot from AGRIST – video, it’s really neat but I think I saw enough outside the original goal of lawn-related robots. I’ll see about doing an outdoor (and indoor) plant watering one later as I get some plants and have it work with adafruit.io and our hardware that we’re cooking up too.
