Desk of Ladyada – LDACs, Sparkle Motion Mini & Claude #DeskOfLadyada #Adafruit
This week at the Desk of Ladyada… we got our Sparkle Motion Mini PCBs in; these were actually easier and faster to manufacture than the ‘big’ Sparkle Motion.
The biggest change is this is a 5V-only board: it’s hard to have 12~20V power in and not have the design get big due to the step-down converters. We’ll work on the tester to get them into the shop this week.
We’re also clearing out some small n’ easy breakout designs like the 8-channel output DAC7578 – we can’t quite get the LDAC to work the way it should, and we’re wondering if there’s something we misunderstand about the chip design.
Finally, we’re writing a driver for the TMC2209 which uses a bi-directional UART pin, but has registers like I2C, so we refactored BusIO to allow a “Generic” interface for reading/writing data and registers, then take advantage of our existing RegisterBits interface. To do that, we used Claude which had some pros/cons over ChatGPT.
