A Guide to Afrofuturism & Black Speculative Fiction #SciFiSunday

The Robert W. Woodruff Library at Emory University compiled an in-depth research guide on Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Fiction. African and African-American diaspora is quite diverse, but the themes center Black culture in science fiction, horror, fantasy, and horror fiction in a very unique and somewhat collective way in its roots. We’ve highlighted various authors and their works before, so check them out too!

Black Science Fiction or Black Speculative Fiction is an umbrella term that includes a variety of genres including science fiction and fantasy where Black people are featured or serve as main characters. One of the primary focuses of this genre is critiquing social structures that enable racial oppression and how social change can be achieved.
