Wow! Crazy but fun project from maker Ian Charnas. He employs the Adafruit Feather ecosystem to get the build done. Very cool!

The control system was entirely built using a RadioFruit (Adafruit Feather
32u4 RFM69HCW), an OLED featherwing, and a screw terminal featherwing. This
control system reads analog signals coming from the hand-held controls (two
hand-drills I repurposed for their trigger-style potentiometers), and sends
RC-style PWM throttle signals to the jet engine. The radio was crucial to
the project because I have a remote emergency stop built from a second
RadioFruit, and my friend holds that and can instantly stop the jet engine
remotely if they see something going wrong. The feather’s ability to read
the radio’s signal strength (RSSI) means that it can also detect when the
emergency stop is out of range, and automatically turn off the engine as a
fail-safe. The prototyping area on the screw terminal feather was useful too
– I added pull-up resistors that would set the analog signals to “stop”
levels in the event that the controls fell off. Lots of safety features –
all made super easy thanks to the Adafruit feather ecosystem!
