This Astrum video is a sort of everything you need to know about ESA’s Rosetta-Philae mission to comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko but were afraid to ask. In it, they reveal one big discovery from the mission that upended a common belief among scientists that water from Earth likely came from comets.
After testing the water vapor on 67/P, it was determined that the deuterium levels (a key indicator of water origins in the solar system) were much different than Earth’s. 67/P is the second comet to have the deuterium levels of its water tested. Haley’s comet also had deuterium levels much different than Earth’s, suggesting that Earth’s oceans did not likely get their water from comets.
